Hello, I’m Renaa Paktiani, a Software Engineering and Management student at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, currently living in Barcelona on exchange. I originally started out in Chemical Engineering, but quickly realized it wasn’t my path, switching to software engineering felt instantly right. In my free time, I’m usually bouldering, playing badminton, or chasing the sun around the city.

What's something that you're passionate about?

I’m passionate about solving real-world problems through technology, and I really enjoy learning new things and sharing knowledge with others. I also love staying active and trying out new sports whenever I can.

What's the most memorable piece of advice you've received, and how has it influenced your life?

One piece of advice that really stuck with me is: “Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’s right for you.” I found Chemical Engineering surprisingly easy, but I didn’t enjoy it at all. So even though I knew nothing about coding, I gave it a shot, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. That mindset has helped me trust my curiosity ever since.

What do you value in a new company / in a boss / in co-workers the most?

I value a workplace that feels welcoming and motivating, somewhere you genuinely want to return to each day. It’s important to have co-workers you connect with beyond just tasks, and a team dynamic that encourages collaboration, learning, and mutual respect. I appreciate a boss who supports growth, communicates clearly, and trusts their team.
