Joining us as a Machine Learning Engineer, Mateja brings a strong passion for building intelligent systems and turning data into real-world impact. Originally from Serbia and now based in Barcelona, he combines an international mindset with a drive to constantly learn, explore, and grow. Whether he’s developing ML solutions, playing a fast-paced game of padel, or discovering new corners of the city, Mateja is all about pushing boundaries and turning ideas into meaningful products. 🚀

A small introduction about you ✨

Hi, I am Mateja and I am a new Machine Learning Engineer Intern here at MVST. I am from Serbia, but I have been living in Barcelona for the past 1.5 years doing my Master’s in Data Science. I enjoy building and exploring Machine Learning
solutions and using data-driven approaches to turn raw ideas into useful products
that help people in their everyday lives. In my free time, I enjoy long walks and
catching up with friends over coffee, although nothing clears my head quite like a
fast-paced game of tennis or padel. As an international in Barcelona, I am always
down to meet new people, explore the city and culture!

What are your long-term career goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?

My long-term goal is to grow into an experienced engineer who can design and
build innovative systems that become real products that makes people’s lives
easier in some way. Over time, I hope to not only contribute to these systems but
also lead ideas of my own, combining experience, creativity, and practical
knowledge gained from working with more experienced engineers. I see this as a
continuous process of learning, experimenting, and applying what I learn to build
intelligent solutions that create real impact.

What's the most memorable piece of advice you've received, and how has it
influenced your life?

One piece of advice that is often on my mind is to always try to step outside of
your comfort zone and actively seek new challenges. I believe that’s where the
most meaningful growth happens, both personally and professionally. It has
become a mindset that has influenced many of my decisions, from moving abroad
to the Netherlands to pursue my Bachelor’s degree, to later coming to Barcelona
for my Master’s. Those big decisions pushed me into lots of unfamiliar
circumstances, but they most definitely helped me grow, learn, and shape me as a
person. Life can become so much more once you push yourself further!

What are you looking forward to the most at MVST?

I am very excited to work with the team and learn from experienced engineers.
What I am looking forward to the most is contributing to and learning about how
these complex real-world systems move from interesting concepts into products
that people actually use. Sharing ideas and learning from talented people has
always been one of the biggest things that motivate me to grow and keep
improving.
