A small introduction about you ✨
My name is Fabian Svensson. I was born in Sweden, but I’ve lived in Spain for the last 13 years. I live together with my partner Mafe, from Colombia, and our lovely puppy Björn, who joined us two years ago.
I love sports and physical activities; some of my current favourites are snowboarding, beach volleyball, padel tennis, and hikes/runs with Björn. I’m also a fan of eSports, fantasy books, cooking, and politics.
I care strongly for the environment and for animals. I’ve been vegetarian for several years and try to do my bit, whether it be by recycling, supporting NGOs, or participating in community clean-ups.
What do you consider to be your greatest professional achievement so far?
Successfully migrating the tech architecture and clients at Vitum from Java/AWS to a more modern Next.js/React Typescript set-up hosted on a much cheaper service (DigitalOcean & Hetzner). It took many months of hard work, but the result definitely paid off!
What do you do to provide yourself with a good work-life balance?
Getting Björn definitely helped. He is very energetic and comes up to me as soon as it's 18:00 when he’s itching for a long walk. I consider myself very hard-working and ambitious. I think my drive and determination come from the fact that I started studying in a public Catalan school just 3 years before graduating from Bachillerato and taking la Selectividad, so to excel, I had to sweat a lot harder than other students, faced with the challenge of two completely new languages. I ended up graduating top of the school, was then one of the top 100 students in Catalonia on the university access exams (PAU/Sele), and eventually graduated Valedictorian from an engineering university and Summa Cum Laude from business.
I wouldn’t attribute these achievements as much to my innate ability but more to strong determination and always working harder than the rest. Having my girlfriend and my dog really helps me balance this drive with my personal life. Spending time with them and being with them is what it’s all for.
What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done, and what did you learn from it?
I can’t decide which of two, so I’ll briefly explain both:
1. I travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, to work with an NGO called CISV in the summer of 2019. We worked with a local project called “Galeira do Click” that had created a
community and a space for people with disabilities, particularly Down Syndrome
and Autism. This was a life-changing journey. I really connected with the people with Down Syndrome and with my fellow CISV workers. It was probably the most beautiful experience I’ve ever lived and I’ll always remember it.
I learnt how beautiful, innocent, and kind people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities are. I learned that giving freely has a way of giving back
even more.
2. This summer of 2025, I went to Norway with Mafe and Björn for our first proper
hiking trip with no past experience!
We just had our car, a tent, and whatever equipment we had thought we’d need.
We drove across all of the Southern half of Norway, exploring absolutely mind-
blowing and stunning scenery. We learnt how to survive on our own without a stable supply of water, electricity, etc. We learnt to cook using gas and how much we take everyday life commodities for granted.
Still, together with the other experiences, I will say this trip has been one of the
highlights of my life so far.
